More than 600 business owners in Sonora tuned in for a virtual training hosted by Amazon over the weekend, which presented a path for local vendors to start selling their products on the e-commerce platform.
"We're trying to boost the sales of our small- and medium-sized businesses, because we know that they represent 75% of our state economy," Sonoran Gov. Claudia Pavlovich said during the online meeting.
She said online sales are a tool for those businesses to bring in a new source of income during the pandemic. Édgar Rodríguez, Amazon’s director of public policy in Mexico, added that becoming a third-party vendor with the company could also bring export opportunities to Sonoran businesses.
Many shops have been closed for months under the state’s strict stay-at-home orders, and as cases continue to rise in Sonora, it’s unlikely most will be able to return to business-as-usual in the foreseeable future.
