Free COVID-19 testing will be available for up to 60,000 Arizonans starting Friday.
Arizona is partnering with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to provide the drive-thru style testing, focusing on two hot spots: Maryvale and south Phoenix.
The two testing sites are at South Mountain Park, 10919 S. Central Ave., and the Maryvale High School, 3415 N. 59th Ave.
Each site is planning to perform 2,500 tests a day, for 12 days. Those tested will be able to see their results online within 24 to 48 hours after the tests arrive at the lab.
Daniel Scarpinato, spokesman for Gov. Doug Ducey, says these tests will not be with the traditional long cotton swabs.
“This is a test that the participant can do themselves with a small swab that they put in their nostril and swirl several times in each nostril. It’s much more comfortable, less invasive,” Scarpinato said.
Participants are being asked to pre-register with the Arizona Department of Health Servicesto ensure an appointment. Once tested, participants will receive five cloth face coverings. Pre-registration will be available July 17 at azhealth.gov/SurgeTesting.
