A little more than a month away from many Arizona school districts starting their fall semesters, distance learning is expected to play a big role for many of their students.
The Show has been hearing about some of the challenges and opportunities of online, remote learning.
Fowler Elementary School District, in southwest Phoenix is planning on offering in-person classes starting Aug. 17, but also hybrid and online options. That plan, however, is subject to change.
Marco Ruiz, the district’s curriculum director and a former school principal, said the current situation has completely changed the face of teaching and learning.
He said the district will be working over the next few weeks to make sure all of its families have devices and internet access, and that the online version of school will include a minimum of six hours of instruction a day — with both live lessons and recorded videos for students to watch.
The Show spoke with Ruiz more about how to go about creating a curriculum based on some or all students not physically being in the classroom.
