Former Maricopa County prosecutor Juan Martinez has been disbarred.
Martinez led the prosecution of Jodi Arias for the murder of Travis Alexander in 2008. It was that case that brought him fame — and infamy when he was later accused of ethical violations during the trial.
Martinez faced an ethics trial for allegations he had a relationship with a blogger during the Arias case.
In October, the Arizona Court of Appeals heard arguments from attorneys trying to overturn the murder conviction of Arias. They say the misconduct by Martinez interfered with their client’s right to a fair trial.
He was also accused of sexually harassing women while with the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office. He was reassigned from high-profile capital litigation bureau to the auto theft division before he was fired from the office earlier this year.
The State Bar of Arizona announced Friday that Martinez consented to his disbarment, effective immediately. Martinez gave up his law license but did not admit to any wrongdoing, according to the Bar statement.
