Former Maricopa County prosecutor Juan Martinez became a household name for the part he played in the murder trial of Jodi Arias. Now, his 30-year career has come to an end in part because of alleged misconduct during that case.
Martinez faced an ethics trial for allegedly having a relationship with a blogger covering Arias and for sexually harassing women at the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office. He was fired from the office earlier this year.
Rather than continue to fight the accusations, Martinez agreed to be disbarred, according to a statement from the State Bar of Arizona on July 17.
Legal writer Michael Kiefer covered Martinez and the Arias trial as a reporter for the Arizona Republic. The Show spoke with him to get his thoughts about Martinez’s decision, and what it was like when Arias was on trial back in 2012.
