Ducey Asks Congress For Continued Unemployment Insurance Funding

As Congress debates its next pandemic relief package, Gov. Doug Ducey is asking for more federal aid for Arizona. The governor sent a letter this week to the state’s congressional delegation outlining his priorities.

The governor wants the federal government to provide continued support for people claiming unemployment insurance. The additional $600 per week in unemployment benefits provided by the CARES Act is  set to end Saturday. Ducey is asking for an additional $1.5 billion for the state’s unemployment trust fund.

In addition, Ducey’s letter asks that Arizona’s tribal nations be allowed more time to spend relief money. He asks for aid for low-income families to pay utility bills. And he is seeking liability protections for front-line workers.
