Census Data Shows COVID-19 Impact On Phoenix And Arizona Households

The Household Pulse Survey by the Census Bureau shows COVID-19’s’ ongoing impact on households. 

Since March 13, 2020, almost half of households across the Valley and Arizona have reported a loss of employment income. The percentage of households that expect someone will lose employment income in the next four weeks are 40.5% in metro Phoenix and 37.7% across Arizona.

In the last four weeks, 40.5% of households across metro Phoenix and 39.7 statewide reported putting off medical care because of the coronavirus.

Across the Valley, household insecurity is a little higher than nationally. The survey says 26.4% of U.S. households either missed last month’s rent or mortgage payment or have slight or no confidence they can cover next 

The margin of error varies among the different data sets from a low of 0.2% nationally to a high for Phoenix of 4.8%. The surveyalso includes information about food scarcity and educational changes. Information reflects data for the nation, states, Washington, D.C., and the 15 biggest metropolitan areas for the week of July 9-14.

The weekly information is meant to help government response and recovery plans. The last survey is planned for release on July 29.
