If you’re looking for a little zen and a little cool, the Red Rock Farm’s lavender festival is going on for one more weekend — through July 26. It’s up in Concho, Arizona which is just east of Show Low, and has activities from lavender picking to lessons on how to cook with it.
The festival is also doing their part to cooperate with COVID-19 regulations. Christine Teeple, the co-founder at the farms, said that having the fields spaced out is very helpful but that they’re adding systems to make sure that customers aren’t crowding together and that staff is protected as well.
“We sanitize their hands when they come into the store and everything is sealed," Teeple said. "And our staff, all of our staff is gloved, masked and have shields.”
Teeple and her husband were the first commercial lavender growers in Arizona, bringing it over in 1996 after being inspired on a trip to France. The lavender was planted for just landscaping purposes at first, but fields up against the red bluffs of Northern Arizona drew crowds.
Teeple said between the red rocks, the wine vineyards up there and the 35,000 lavender plants there’s so much to keep your eye, but walking into the shop full of lavender products us just as soothing.
“And they come into the shop and they just smell this lavender. They just are overwhelmed by all the products that have lavender in it and they just really enjoy it," Teeple said.
The lavender festival is happening July 25-26, but the farm is available to visit every weekend.
