The city of Maricopa is introducing a new program to help families navigate online learning platforms.
The program, Afterschool Connect, will be providing educational support and internet access to families needing assistance. Teachers will be available for tutoring purposes, while recreational staff will be trained to help parents and students on the technical aspects of remote learning, according to the city’s Community Services Director Nathan Ullyot.
“Needs are changing, it’s not just about watching your kids ... now, they have to go to school while you’re watching them," said Ullyot. So, [the city was] trying to be proactive and think about how we can help.”
Ullyot said the program will focus on K-5 students to start, keeping in mind that younger students may require more technical assistance when learning new material or completing assignments.
Families can register for hourlong slots on the city’s website.
