School districts across Arizona are waiting on the state to release the metrics they should use when making decisions about when to reopen for in-person classes. The results are expected to be out by August 8. In the meantime, educators are generally planning to at least start the year remotely.
The group Stand for Children has released a set of guidelines to make sure students are motivated and engaged, and that this upcoming school year does not turn into a “lost school year.”
Those recommendations include fair grading practices, an adviser for every middle and high school student and starting the year with a virtual home visit between teachers and their students.
Rebecca Gau is the executive director of Stand For Children Arizona. The Show spoke with her about how concerned educators are about this upcoming school year becoming a "lost year."
