Arizona State University announced Thursday that it will require students to be tested, and cleared, for COVID-19 before moving into their dorm.
The new testing requirement will help minimize the spread of COVID-19 within its campus community, University Provost Mark Searle said in an email to students. They will need to provide proof of a negative test at least 48 hours before they are allowed to move into their residence hall.
“The logic there is that the students living in the residence halls, we have a special responsibility for," said University President Michael Crow.
He adds that students currently living on campus will also be required to get tested.
ASU recommends that students who are returning to campus but not living in the dorms also get tested. The university is providing testing at no charge to students and employees.
All students will be required to complete daily symptom self-screenings via the ASU app and a training on expectations while on campus, including COVID-19 related safety protocols. Crow said ASU will also have surveillance testing to see how things are going on campus and in the residence halls.
