Gov. Doug Ducey put some daylight between himself and President Trump after the president’s controversial tweet that questioned the legitimacy of mail-in voting and suggested postponing the November general election.
At his Thursday press conference, Ducey said he had no intention of changing the election date, adding Arizonans can trust the state’s robust early voting system.
“In Arizona, we’re going to follow the law," Ducey said. "Election Day in the United States is the Tuesday after the first Monday in November. It’s Nov. 3. There will be an election on Nov. 3.”
Ducey affirmed the legitimacy of the state's early voting system, and unlike President Trump, embraced mail-in voting.
"You'll have that option in Arizona, of course, and you'll have Election Day voting as well. It will be safe," he said.
The deadline to register to vote ahead of the November general election is Oct. 5.
