The Mount Lemmon Highway near Tucson reopened Saturday after crews were able to repair damage caused by the Bighorn Fire.
Pima County Transportation director Ana Olivares says the fire severely damaged infrastructure along the road - including more than 500 guardrail posts.
“The fire did a bit of damage to the guardrail post along the highway, we wanted to be sure to repair the critical ones before we could open it up to the public," Olivares said. "We still need to replace more, but these were the most badly burned, more critical ones that needed to be replaced.”
While the road is open, repair work will continue for another week or so.
