The record-breaking heat gripping the Phoenix area will continue for another week.
James Sawtelle is a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. He says the only break might be a cool-down in the middle of the week — with high temperatures dropping just below 110 degrees.
“Our coolest day looks like it’ll be on Thursday, with a high of around 108 and it looks like it’ll warm up again to near 110 late in the week and going into next weekend," he said. "We do have a slight chance of thunderstorms Wednesday evening, it’s a very slight 10% chance at this point.”
Clouds or smoke? A large portion of western Arizona is covered with a layer of smoke from the Apple Fire (California). This smoke extends from The Sea of Cortez, Lake Havasu, Phoenix, and Payson. #azwx pic.twitter.com/QKBHQeXODE

The sky Sunday was unusually hazy due to smoke from a wildfire in California.
"It's producing a lot of smoke," Sawtelle said. "That smoke has spread across south central and south west Arizona, and it seems to be streaming into the area creating pretty significant shade."
In the high country, Flagstaff will be unseasonably warm, with high temperatures in the upper 80s.
