U.S. Rep. Ruben Gallego, D-Arizona.

Arizona Democrat Ruben Gallego is blasting a fellow House member, Texas Republican Louie Gohmert, for refusing to wear a mask and social distance prior to testing positive for COVID-19. Gallego is on two committees with Gohmert and was at two hearings with him the day before he tested positive.

"Louie Gohmert should be ashamed of himself," Gallego said. "He got, potentially got, many people sick. And their family members. And, you know, hopefully there’s no deaths or serious consequences from this, but he should really be ashamed."

Another Arizona Congressman, Democrat Raul Grijalva, tested positive on Friday, becoming one of at least twelve members of Congress to contract the virus. Grijalva chairs the House Natural Resources committee, which held a hearing on Tuesday attended by Gohmert, who tested positive the next day.

Gallego called Gohmert’s behavior inexcusable, and said it may have led to an outbreak on Capitol Hill. He also criticized the House’s conservative Freedom Caucus, which has eschewed mask wearing and social distancing.
