The Show regularly checks in with the editorial board of the Arizona Republic to talk about current issues facing the state and the region — featured in columns on the newspaper’s op-ed pages.
A decade ago — around the time of the signing of SB 1070 into law — controversy over a Tucson Unified School District series of ethnic studies courses led to the state banning such classes. But schools can now require ethnic studies classes if they want to, because of a federal judge blocking the previous law.
And some people, including the Republic's Elvia Diaz, believe those courses should be reintroduced.
The Show spoke with Phil Boas, editorial page editor of the Republic, for more about Diaz’s column and her argument.
