Schools in the J.O. Combs Unified School District in San Tan Valley remain closed as of Aug. 19, with district officials citing “insufficient staffing levels” once again.
The district’s Governing Board will be meeting tonight to discuss the new start date for in-person instruction. That was supposed to start on Aug. 17, but several teachers have said they’re not comfortable going back into the classroom before benchmarks set up by the state are met, and have called in sick.
The Show spoke more about this with Dave Nelson, a teacher at Combs High School and the president of the Combs Education Association.
