The Bureau of Reclamation is releasing water below Glen Canyon Dam to create power as excessive heat continues to drive demand.
The water releases will lead to rising levels on the Colorado River.
The Bureau is releasing water from Glen Canyon and may do the same on the Green River below Utah’s Flaming Gorge Dam.
Both dams can generate power on demand, and have been placed on alert due to a Western heat wave.
The Bureau says that water levels may begin to rise without warning and urges people to use caution if they are on the river.
The releases are expected to continue until the heat wave subsides.
