Salt Fire Burns More Than 2,700 Acres Near Roosevelt Lake

A lighting strike started the Salt Fire near Roosevelt Lake on Monday.

More than 2,700 acres have burned as of Wednesday night.

Firefighters continue to battle the blaze, as high winds are pushing it west toward Highway 188.

Dave Albo with the Tonto National Forest says firefighters are trying to protect three structures in Pinal Creek as well as mine infrastructure and power lines.

“The street structures in Pinal Creek, those are homes to the best of my knowledge. They’re not threatened, they're not evacuated. We don’t have any community evacuations in place or recommended at this time," Albo said.

The fire is zero percent contained and portions of Highway 188 and Highway 288 are closed to give firefighters more room.
