ASU, NAU To Conduct COVID-19 Tests On Random Students, Employees

Arizona State University and Northern Arizona University announced this week that they're extending their COVID-19 testing strategy to random students and employees, in addition to requiring negative tests for students moving into their residence halls.

NAU will implement ongoing randomized and asymptomatic testing which will help it monitor and manage health on campus throughout the semester, said University President Rita Cheng in a Friday statement. A random sample of about 1,000 students, faculty and staff will be invited for testing each week.

This phase of testing, which will use a saliva test, will be carried out through our partnership with Arizona State University and the Arizona Department of Health Services, Cheng added. More details about this new effort will be release soon.

Meanwhile, ASU’s new testing strategy will include employees of key business partners working on campus in addition to university students and employees. Individuals identified for testing will be selected randomly, the university said in a Thursday statement.

ASU Health Services will notify students of their test time. The Office of Human Resources will notify employees of their test time. ASU will work with our business partners on notification of their employee testing times.

ASU will continue to provide free testing for any student or employee who needs and wants a test.
