Firefighters continue to battle two fires in the desert north of Globe, and they are keeping an eye on the weather.
The Salt Fire has burned more than 20,000 acres with 20% containment.
To the east, the Gin and Griffin fires have merged to become the Griffin Fire, which has burned more than 27,000 acres with no containment. The fires have forced temporary road closures and evacuations are possible.
Cindy Wolf a spokeswoman for the fire team, said an afternoon storm could help firefighters.
“It could, dependent on the precipitation, over the area, or if there’s no perception and it’s dry lightning, with wind, dependent on the wind direction it could push the fire.”
The Griffin Fire has burned about 38,000 acres as of Tuesday afternoon. It has forced the closure of U.S. 60 north of Globe.
The forecast calls for the possibility of thunderstorms, with a slight chance of rain.
