A short film contest is taking submissions from student and non-professional filmmakers living in Arizona and neighboring Sonora, Mexico, with films about life in the borderlands.
Now in its second year, the Cinema On the Border film contestis an opportunity for up-and-coming filmmakers in Arizona and Sonora to showcase their work.
The Sonoran Cultural Institute is accepting submissions between now and Sept. 24. Films can be fiction, documentary or experimental. They must focus on themes relevant to the Arizona-Sonora borderlands, run no longer than 15 minutes and have been produced between now and 2015.
Films in English will need subtitles in Spanish, and films in Spanish must have English subtitles. Each filmmaker can only submit one entry.
The contest also includes a free filmmaking workshop. A screening of the winning films, as well as the workshop, will take place in October.
