A nonprofit organization in the Sonoran capital of Hermosillo raised funds for its coronavirus relief efforts with a virtual concert. The organization has raised nearly $5 million in the last five months.
Hermosillo-native Carín León kicked-off the three-hour virtual fundraising concert this weekend, which featured several well-known local performers and bringing in about $100,000 in donations.
With those funds, the community organization Hermosillo ¿Cómo Vamos? says it’s raised more than 100 million pesos, or nearly $5 million, for coronavirus relief efforts in the last five months.
"We can achieve the goal that we propose for ourselves," said Arturo Díaz Monge, president of Hermosillo ¿Cómo Vamos?. "That's what we've proven today as Hermosillenses."
Díaz Monge congratulated Hermosillo residents, business owners, government agencies and nonprofits for contributing to the efforts. He said the funds are being used to support struggling families with food, medication and other necessities, to purchase medical supplies for hospitals and clinics, and to establish microloans, among other projects.
