One of the Sonoran groups dedicated to searching for the bodies of missing loved ones is asking for support from the state government.
Las Buscadoras por la Paz, or Peace Seekers, recently met with a representative of Gov. Claudia Pavlovich. They were seeking tools, as well as a vehicle and access to a backhoe for promising search sites.
“Yes, I’m satisfied,” group member Cecilia Delgado said of the agreement struck. “Now we just have to wait for them to follow through.”
They’ll insist, if not, Delgado added.
The Buscadoras are one of a number of similar groups in Sonora, which has the tragic distinction of having more bodies recovered from clandestine graves in recent years than almost every other state. Since late 2018, more than 140 have been found, according to a recent government report.
