Students and teachers at the Apache Junction Unified School District are back in the classroom together on Tuesday. It's the first time since the school year started in July.
Sharlah Reynolds teaches economics and street law courses at Apache Junction High School. She’s excited that her students are finally able to return to some sense of normalcy after starting the school year with distance learning.
“It’s not the same as sitting with your friend at lunch, and talking about you know, ‘Oh, I have this really bad day or oh, I really like this and so person. I think they need that," she said. "I think they need to be around other people.”
The district is operating in a hybrid mode where students come to class for two days and learn from home for the rest of the week. Reynolds said she suffers from severe asthma, which makes it hard to breathe with a mask on, but regardless she’s happy to finally meet her students face to face.
The district may full reopen its schools in October pending consideration by its governing board.
