National Transportation Safety Board Continues Tempe Train Derailment Investigation

The National Transportation Safety Board continues to investigate a train derailment in Tempe this summer.

The train derailed near Tempe Town Lake in late July. Three cars were loaded with cyclohexanone, a toxic chemical, and two of them fell off a trestle.

One of them leaked, and the FBI was called to investigate but found no evidence of wrongdoing.

The NTSB is inspecting the tracks, the bridge, the rail cars and maintenance records. It is also interviewing crew members and looking at video footage.

Union Pacific has repaired the bridge and estimated the damage to be between $8 to $10 million.
