A complaint filed in U.S. District Court on Wednesday reveals more details about the shooting outside the federal courthouse.
A statement from the FBI filed in U.S. District Court identifies the man accused of assaulting a federal court security officer with a deadly weapon as Phoenix resident James Lee Carr, 68.
The FBI says the victim reports being shot at three times on Tuesday. The security officer says he fired back eight times as the shooter sped away in a Cadillac sedan on Washington Street.
According to the statement, Carr called his family and admitted to the shooting. The family then notified police of his whereabouts, and Carr was detained at Verde Park.
The FBI says Carr’s neighbors said he was angry on the day of the shooting and acting like he might kill himself.
Carr remains in the custody of law enforcement.
