'Peace And Love,' Says Mexican President After Trump’s Threats On Drug Report

MEXICO CITY — President Donald Trump released his yearly report on illegal drugs trafficked into the U.S. in September. In the document, he wrote that the Mexican government needs to intensify its efforts and do more to stop the flow of narcotics. But Mexico’s president says there’s nothing to worry about.

Mexico is on Trump’s list of major drug transit and producing countries.

“Without further progress over the coming year, I will consider determining that Mexico has failed demonstrably to uphold its international drug control commitments,” says Trump in the determination memo.

But Mexican president Andrés Manuel López Obrador said Trump has his right to give his opinion, and that Mexico has advanced on its fight against organized crime.

"Peace and love… and easy, easy, easy", said López Obrador, referring to Mexico’s relationship with the US. He says the document doesn’t represent a threat of losing U.S. funding and support to fight drug trafficking.

López Obrador said his government is also acting cautiously with the U.S. considering it’s a presidential election year.
