Tucson officials have sent a letter to owners of apartments near the University of Arizona campus asking for their help to slow the COVID-19 transmission among students. The university has confirmed nearly 1,400 positive cases in the past 10 days.
In their Thursday letter, Tucson Mayor Regina Romero, University President Robert Robbins and Pima County Board of Supervisors Chairman Ramón Valadez asked apartment owners to support the voluntary shelter in place recommendation issued to students earlier this week.
The officials are encouraging the owners to provide their student residents who test positive for COVID-19 with isolation housing and related services. The letter also asks them to close their pools, spas and recreation areas, and prohibit gatherings of more than 10 individuals.
In addition, voluntary quarantines will be in effect for individuals residing in Greek houses where more than 10% of residents test positive for COVID-19.
If the measures are not effective at reducing the spread of COVID-19, the Pima County Department of Health may issue a quarantine order.
