Sewer Overflows Continue In Johnson Utilities Service Area

The Arizona Corporation Commission heard an update from the interim manager of a beleaguered East Valley water provider on Tuesday.

The commission heard several plans on how interim manager EPCOR and individual stakeholders hope to increase capacity for Johnson Utilities.

EPCOR Operations Director Jeff Stuck said they have had no issues with water pressure, quality, or supply this summer, but the Johnson service area is still experiencing sewer overflows.

“We’ve had a few of them," Stuck said, calling the overflows "small in size."

"They are typically the result of contractors hitting some of the utility facilities and causing these” Stuck said.

EPCOR representatives said they are looking at a potential temporary sewer interconnect agreement with the town of Queen Creek, as well as the construction of a new wastewater treatment plant.

The commission agreed to give EPCOR another month to provide more details on those plans.
