Arizona State Fair Holds Drive-Thru Fair Food Event

Just because Arizona State Fair fans can’t pack the fairgrounds this year, it doesn’t mean they can’t get a taste of it.

Fair organizers are hosting a drive-thru for two weekends featuring fair food favorites — from turkey legs to funnel cakes.

“We wanted to figure out how to bring a smile to people’s faces, but do it safely and with COVID protocols in place,” said Wanell Costello, executive director of the Arizona State Fair.

The fair was  canceled last month because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Many fairs around the country switched to drive-thru events this year over public health concerns,  including the Minnesota State Fair, which is the country’s largest.

The Arizona drive-thru event started Friday, and admission is free. Visitors can get their fried food fix through Sunday, then again Oct. 2-4. Vendors will be selling food from 12-9 p.m.

All food is served to go, and participants must stay in their vehicles.

Last year, 1.2 million people attended the fair, which featured more than 100 food vendors.
