In front of Hermosillo’s well known Club Obregon on Friday evening, small groups of largely masked people were waiting to get in to listen to the live band. A bouncer there and at another nearby bar were taking the temperatures of patrons before letting them in, as new rules require.

Before the weekend, a city official told local outlet Proyecto Puente that it will be up to the employees of bars and nightclubs to ensure observance of safety measures.

For the time being at least, new cases in Sonora and much of the rest of Mexico are trending downward, according to Hugo Lopez Gatell, subsecretary of prevention and health promotion.
