Sears Fire Burns 9,200 Acres; Zero Percent Contained

Another wildfire is burning on the outskirts of the Phoenix area. The Sears Fire, east of Cave Creek, has grown to 9,200 acres, and as of Sunday was zero percent contained.

The cause of the Sears Fire remains unknown but the grass and brush fire has already led to closures including Bartlett Dam Road, Seven Springs Road, Horseshoe Lake, Bartlett Lake and Seven Springs recreation sites.

A spokesperson for the Tonto National Forest said fire crews are building firelines and dropping water and retardant to suppress the blaze.

Officials have been able to assess some damage. So far they found three residences that were destroyed by the fire.

The Sears Fire was first reported on Friday.
