As all eyes are on the presidential election coming so soon, let’s talk about an election that very few people will be watching: Arizona’s fire district boards.
In fact, so few people wanted to run for them that many of these elections have been canceled.
Joanna Allhands argues that’s a problem. Allhands is a columnist for the Arizona Republic and wrote recently about how none of the 19 fire districts in Maricopa County will hold elections this year.
In some districts, not enough people stepped up to run. In others, there weren't enough candidates to fill the empty seats on the boards that run them.
The Show spoke with Allhands more about why this should matter to us all and what fire districts are to begin with.
