Pew Research Analysis Finds Arizona Doing Well Despite National Recession

The recession caused by the coronavirus pandemic has hit states differently, and new data from the Pew Charitable Trusts looks at two metrics of how states are doing financially.

The first is personal income, which is an aggregate number; the second is state tax revenue growth. In both categories, Arizona appears to be doing fairly well.

The Show spoke with two of the researchers who put this analysis together: Justin Theal, an officer with Pew Charitable Trusts, and Mike Maciag, a researcher with the group.

The conversation started by asking Theal about how important it’s been for a state to have recovered its tax revenue from the Great Recession, before this one hit.
