As the election draws near, there are some races that aren’t necessarily garnering the same attention as those at the top of the ticket: school boards.
There are a lot of big decisions facing education this election cycle — from a whole lot of bonds and overrides to Proposition 208, Invest in Ed.
While there are a few contested races for school boards, a lot of them are not.
According to Joanna Allhands with the Arizona Republic, there are 73 races in the state for school board seats that won’t be voted on at all because there’s only one candidate running.
How did we get here? To find out, The Show spoke with Steven Chapman, president of the Arizona School Boards Association, and current board member in the Tolleson Union High School District.
