The Trump administration announced last week it will cut the number of refugees admitted into the country to historic lows — again.
Under the plan, just 15,000 refugees will be allowed to resettle in the United States in 2021, the lowest ceiling ever proposed since the resettlement program was created 40 years ago. Last year, the Trump administration moved the limit to just 18,000, a previous low.
On average, since the program began in the 1980s, the annual cap has been 95,000.
The move has dismayed refugee communities and those who work to resettle them in Arizona, which has long been one of the states that's accepted the most refugees.
The Show spoke with Aaron Rippenkroeger, the executive director of the International Rescue Committee for Arizona, about his reaction to the news.
