After her sister’s body was presumably found on the floor of a Tijuana hotel room, Betsy Bonner began her quest to find answers about her disappearance, alleged overdose and death. But the search may have turned up more questions than answers. It’s all documented in Bonner’s new memoir, "The Book of Atlantis Black: The Search for a Sister Gone Missing."
Atlantis Black was her sister’s adopted name — one she used onstage in the early 2000s as her short-lived but promising music career was taking off. But a battle with prescription drugs and an arrest by the Drug Enforcement Administration left her with a desire to run away — and possibly fake her own death.
In the book, Bonner uses her sister’s emails, social media accounts, Craigslist ads, video surveillance and police reports to try to piece together her sister’s mysterious story.
It was a departure for the teacher and poet, but one she said allowed her to be more ambitious than she ever thought she could.
