An Arizona grand jury has indicted a Customs and Border Protection officer accused of computer tampering in a sexual misconduct case against the officer’s own son.
CBP officer Elizabeth Landeros is charged with seven counts of computer tampering, obstruction of justice and conspiracy.
Two years ago, her son was indicted in Pima County on several charges of sexual conduct with a minor who was less than 15. Landeros allegedly used her authority to access law enforcement databases that have information about who crosses the U.S. border.
She is accused of trying to use that information to pressure her son's victim into recanting the allegations. Her son ultimately pleaded guilty on one charge. While the indictment alleges Landeros conspired with others to pressure the victim, it doesn’t specify whether her co-conspirators were other law enforcement.
A CBP spokesperson said the FBI served Landeros with a summons Sept. 25. She’s worked for the agency six years and will be placed on leave while the case is litigated.
