Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich Pushes Back On Voter Registration Deadline Ruling

Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich is pushing back against last week’s ruling that extended the state’s voter registration deadline. But challengers say Brnovich’s interest in the legal issue comes too late.

Brnovich said in a tweet, "Courts should not change laws on the eve of an election. Creating chaos and confusion for voters helps no one."

But in new legal filings, proponents of the deadline extension say Brnovich never intervened in the case when they sued Secretary of State Katie Hobbs to force her to move the deadline back.

Instead, someone from Brnovich's office represented her unsuccessfully, and Brnovich only took an interest when Hobbs chose not to appeal this decision.

Hobbs has argued that making a change would create extra work for county recorders.
