Q&AZ: When Are Ballots Collected From Maricopa County Drop Boxes?

Q&AZ is supported in part by Sierra Nevada Brewing Company

With early voting underway, people are using a variety of ways to cast their ballots. One listener wanted to know when ballots are collected from drop boxes.

Ballots at drop boxes are collected daily by two ballot couriers of different parties.

The sealed envelopes go through a system of tamper-resistant seals, serial numbers, audits and vaults.

"And they’re sealed with a tamper-evident seal, and we log all of those serial numbers to make sure that when it comes back to the elections department, that that tamper-evident seal has not been opened. And we can make sure that those ballots get securely get back to the elections department every night," said Megan Gilbertson of the Maricopa County Elections Department.

The drop boxes were put in place to accommodate voters during the pandemic.

To find a drop box location, go to locations.maricopa.vote.
