The IRS reminds taxpayers that the deadline for filing late returns is Thursday, Oct. 15.
The April deadline came when much of the country was still in lockdown. The tax deadline was extended to July, to give taxpayers some relief.
But even when there’s not a pandemic, the IRS allows taxpayers to apply for an extension to mid-October.
That final deadline for 2020 — Oct. 15 — is fast approaching.
“We’re just trying to get word out for people to remember that if you requested an extension, that your deadline is coming up, and you’ll need to file your 2019 tax return as soon as possible,” said David Tucker, a spokesperson for the IRS.
People who owe money on their taxes are encouraged to pay as early as possible to avoid penalties.
