Gov. Doug Ducey Says Bernie Sanders' Endorsement Shows What A Bad Idea Prop. 208 Is For Arizona

Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey called U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders' recent endorsement of Proposition 208 proof of what a bad idea it is. Ducey weighed in on the issue during U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos' visit to a Phoenix charter school.

Ducey argued that the initiative — which would create a 3.5 percent income tax surcharge on individuals making more than $250,000 and married couples making more than $500,000 — would result in the largest tax increase in state history. Prop. 208 would put Arizona on par with Vermont, New York and Washington, D.C, he said.

"It would be the equivalent of hanging out a sign over our state that said look elsewhere," Ducey said. "All the pipeline of people and opportunities that (would) come to Arizona would be hurt if people voted for Proposition 208."

A new poll by Monmouth Universityshows 60 percent of voters favor the passage of Prop. 208, a decline from last month.
