Encouraged By Its COVID-19 Testing Data, University Of Arizona Expanding In-Person Classes

University of Arizona classes of up to 50 students will be allowed to meet in-person starting week as long as its COVID-19 testing data continues to head in the right direction, the Tucson-based institution announced on Monday. Currently, in-person classes are limited those with 30 or fewer students.

University provost Liesl Folks recommends students let their instructors know whether they are comfortable being back in the class or would prefer to continue learning remotely.

“Make sure that you are communicating your preferences clearly because that will be an important part of the puzzle as we work out this next step," she said during a Monday press conference.

The university is relaxing it’s restrictions on in-person classes as its COVID-19 testing data continues to show improvements. On Friday, the university reported no positive cases out of nearly 300 tests. It’s positivity rate over the last 10 days is under 1%.
