The Tohono O’odham Nation has committed $1 million to the University of Arizona and another million to Arizona State University to help researchers continue to fight COVID-19.
Both universities have been actively involved in developing tests and science-based solutions for COVID-19.
ASU has over 2,000 researchers dedicated to it and UA's immunologists have developed antibody tests as well as a system to test faculty, staff and students quickly.
The $2 million is the largest contribution pledged by the Tohono O’odham Nation to individual entities from their gaming revenue. The tribe operates several casinos including in Tucson and in the West Valley near Glendale.
