State Rep. Raquel Terán (D-Phoenix), along with her husband is quarantining after testing positive for COVID-19 last week.
Terán and her husband tested positive after visiting with family members. While Terán is not showing any symptoms, her husband began showing symptoms on Thursday.
In a statement, Terán said they made a mistake by letting their guard down when visiting family members.
"Like so many in our community, we want to be close to the ones we love," the statement said. "We miss them and we want to see them. We take extensive precautions when we go out, we wear masks, we keep our distance and we wash our hands, but we let our guard down with family.
As coronavirus cases continue to rise again in Arizona, Terán said to take the advice of public health officials seriously.
"COVID-19 is highly contagious and cases are on the rise again," she said. "Listen to the experts and scientists, and make sure if you think you've been exposed that you get tested immediately.”
