Dr. C.T. Wright, the chairman of the Arizona Board of Executive Clemency, has died.
Wright was also a prominent civic and religious leader who was often heard presenting the invocation at the statehouse.
Gov. Doug Ducey called Wright "an Arizona treasure" and "a great man who lived a life defined by hard work and faith."
Wright was appointed to the Arizona Board of Executive Clemency in 2014 and became its chairman in 2016. The Board conducts hearings of inmates seeking release from prison and makes recommendations to the governor.
Wright had a long history in criminal justice. The Governor’s Office said prior to his work in Arizona, Wright developed and supervised training programs for law enforcement officers in Georgia and Florida as well as an education program for inmates in Florida.
