The Tonto National Forest extended its fire restrictions through Dec. 31. Originally set to expire Friday, the restrictions have continued because of the record dry monsoon season and a most recent disappointing cold front.
Susan Blake is a spokesperson for the forest service.
“Over the weekend, we were hoping to get more rain through the area. But it just wasn’t significant enough to impact the drought conditions," Blake said.
The Tonto National Forest will continue to ban target shooting, and open fires in dispersed recreational areas.
Charcoal fires and campfires are allowed only at forest service-provided fire structures and barbeques.
