Despite an uptick in coronavirus cases, long-term care facilities are reporting that family visits are going well. That’s according to Dana Kennedy, the state director of AARP Arizona. She says at the most recent long-term care task force meeting, facility operators said visits were still taking place.
"And then they also reported that a lot of the visits are outdoors, which is nice, because those are the safest visits," Kennedy said. "And, you know, our weather right now is nice, and it allows for an outdoor visit. And it allows them, you know, to get outside of the building as well. So I don't care how they visit as long as they're able to visit with their loved ones."
In Maricopa County, there have been more than 4,300 cases of COVID-19 among residents in long-term care and hospice, and more than 1200 have died from the virus.
