Affordable Care Act Open Enrollment Starts Sunday

For the millions who have lost their jobs — and employee health benefits — to the economic turmoil caused by COVID-19, this Sunday marks the kickoff of an important season: open enrollment for the Affordable Care Act Marketplace.

Starting Nov. 1 and lasting through Dec. 15, new and returning marketplace customers can sign up for 2021 health coverage at HealthCare.gov.

Consumers can also view plans and prices on that site in advance.

Coverage begins Jan. 1, 2021.

Meanwhile, with the election looming and a Supreme Court challenge to follow, the future of the act remains uncertain.

If struck down in full, as the Trump administration advocates, tens of millions could lose health coverage, Medicaid coverage and coverage for pre-existing conditions.
